Gmail Tips and Tricks
1. Change The Display Density
In your Gmail account, you can change how many messages are shown at once. This feature could be useful if you read your messages on a browser that is a different size on a different device. It helps people understand what you want to say.
2. Hide unwanted options on the left sidebar
You can hide labels on the left sidebar of Gmail that you don't use, like Categories, Circles, and Chats, to make the sidebar look neat. Go to Settings and click on the Labels tab to see all of your labels. You can click the "show" or "hide" button next to each label.
3. Use Gmail Priority Inbox to manage your emails
When you turn on Priority Inbox, your inbox is split into different sections so that the important stuff is at the top and the junk is out of the way. Only when you have an important message will Gmail let you know. If you keep Gmail open in a tab, the number of unread messages will only go up when you get an important email. This way, you won't be tempted to check your inbox all the time.
4. Personal Level Indicators
With the Personal level indicators, you can easily identify messages that have been sent only to you. Go to Settings, check Show indicators in the Personal level indicators section, and click Save Changes at the bottom.
Then, head to your inbox. If you see a double arrow in an email, it means that you are the only recipient of the message.
5. Mark as Read Button
You can add the Mark as read or Mark as unread action to the toolbar so that you don't have to click More then select an action. Go to Settings, select the Labs tab, then click Enable next to Mark as Read Button. Remember to click Save Changes at the bottom when you're done. Now you can mark a message as read in one click.
6. Google Calendar Gadget
You can access Google Calendar right inside your Gmail inbox. Go to Settings, select the Labs tab, then click Enable next to Google Calendar gadget. Your Inbox will get a new widget that shows you what's coming up on your Google Calendar.
This feature shows the next conversation when you delete, archive, or mute a conversation instead of going back to your Inbox. To enable Auto-advance feature, go to Settings, select Labs, then click Enable next to Auto-advance.
9. Desktop Notifications
If you enable Desktop Notifications, you will receive a notification whenever you receive a new message. You adjust this feature in the General tab of Settings.
10. Gmail HTML Version
You can access the HTML version of Gmail (https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/h/) when your Internet connection is poor or when Gmail is down
11. Dots In Your Email Address Doesn’t Matter
Gmail can't read usernames with dots as characters. You can put dots in or take them out of a Gmail address without changing the real address. For example, [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc. are all identical. All of them belong to one person. This means that you can even use those addresses to log in to your account.
