What happens if you protect your tweets?
One of the biggest differences between public tweets and protected tweets is that your protected tweets are only visible to your followers on Twitter, while public tweets are simply visible to anyone, no matter if they have a Twitter account or not.
And what else happens when you activate the “Protect your Tweets” option? Here are some further details:
- You will receive a request when someone on Twitter wants to follow your account. Of course, you can deny or approve that request.
- It’s impossible for your followers to share your tweets. In other words, they can’t retweet or retweet with a comment.
- Your tweets, when they are protected, won’t appear in any 3rd-party search engines, such as Google.
- Your protected tweets will be searchable on the Twitter platform itself by only you and your followers.
How to unprotect your Tweets
When you change your mind and don’t want to activate the "Protect your Tweets" option anymore, you can unprotect your tweets and make them public again with ease.
The steps for unprotecting your tweets are simple and quite similar to those for protecting them. So, in order to unprotect your tweets, simply repeat steps 1–5 above. And after tapping "Audience and tagging," uncheck the "Protect your Tweets" option, and your tweets now become public to everyone again.
However, it’s important to note that unprotecting your tweets means all your previously protected tweets are also made public.
Besides, all the pending follower requests won’t be automatically accepted when you unprotect your tweets. If left pending, these accounts will have to follow your account again. So, before unprotecting your tweets, you should review all the pending follower requests.
